Tunde Sotunde, M.D., M.B.A., is president of the North Region Medicaid operations in the Government Business Division of WellPoint, Inc. In this position, Dr. Sotunde oversees all aspects of the company’s Medicaid health plans in Indiana, Maryland, New Jersey, New York and Wisconsin.
A pediatrician by training, Dr. Sotunde has spent most of his career advocating for and ensuring access to health care for vulnerable populations. He has extensive senior leadership experience in managed care.
From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Sotunde led the Amerigroup Georgia health plan. Prior to joining Amerigroup, Dr. Sotunde served as chief medical officer for The Little Clinic, a venture capitalbacked startup headquartered in Nashville, Tenn., which owned and operated more than 100 walk-in clinics placed within retail locations across the country. Previously, Dr. Sotunde served as southeast regional vice president and chief medical officer for UnitedHealthcare.
Dr. Sotunde previously served as clinical instructor in pediatrics at both the State University of New York (SUNY) Health Sciences Center in Syracuse, N.Y. and Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville. He kept an active medical practice throughout most of his career, including providing pro bono pediatric services to the underserved, most recently with the Mercy Children’s Clinic in Franklin, Tenn.
He earned his undergraduate degree from Ardingly College in Sussex, England; his medical degree from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria; and completed his residency at the Howard University Pediatric Residency program. Dr. Sotunde He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Memphis.
