AGP Eco Fair Promotes Sustainability

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Friday, June 1, 2012) – Amerigroup Corporation (NYSE: AGP) teamed up with the City of Virginia Beach this week for its third annual Eco Fair. More than 30 local vendors were in attendance, educating employees and the general public on the benefits of “going green,” and offering options for more sustainable choices such as using renewable energy, composting and recycling.

“The Amerigroup Eco Fair is more than just a single event; it’s a reflection of our Company-wide approach to sustainability,” said Dick Zoretic, Amerigroup executive vice president and chief operating officer. “Sustainability isn’t just about recycling.  It involves an array of initiatives, ranging from teaching children  in our local communities the value of growing a simple garden, to improving waste management practices and reducing landfill use.”

Exhibitors from various organizations throughout Hampton Roads including the Back Bay Restoration Foundation, Five Points Community Farm Market, Virginia Aquarium and the Marine Science Center offered interactive discussions on how to successfully work to lessen individuals’ impact on the environment.

In 2011, Amerigroup was ranked number 46 on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Fortune 500 list of the largest green power purchasers. Over the past year, the Company has composted more than 4,000 pounds of food, retrofitted its National Support Centers with LED lighting and recycled more than 50 percent of all materials exiting its National Call Center.
