Amerigroup Foundation Rounds up 2012 Bringing Holiday Cheer to Children
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Tuesday, December 18, 2012) – The Amerigroup Foundation has been instrumental throughout the year, providing a helping hand to numerous community organizations — truly making a difference for Georgians across the state.
“Amerigroup Georgia is committed to supporting the communities we serve through charitable donations and volunteerism,” said Dr. Tunde Sotunde, chief executive officer, Amerigroup Georgia. “This year, the Foundation donated more than $200,000 to community organizations across Georgia and volunteered more than 1,400 hours of service working to improve the health and well-being of residents.”
In spirit of the holiday season, the Amerigroup Foundation donated $12,000 to The Empty Stocking Fund in Atlanta, contributing a total of $32,000 to the organization over the past two years. In addition to these funds, which provide gifts for children living at or below the poverty level, Amerigroup Georgia had nearly 40 individuals volunteer at Santa’s Village, The Empty Stocking Fund’s toy distribution center.
“For many of the families we serve, the gifts they receive from The Empty Stocking Fund are the only gifts they will be able to give their children,” said Manda Hunt, executive director of The Empty Stocking Fund. “We thank the Foundation for its generous gift, which will bring joy and provide gifts for 600 children in need this holiday season.”
Since 2006, the Foundation has contributed $1 million to Georgia community organizations.
