Amerigroup Teams with Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens and Torrey Smith to Bolster Children’s Health

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Tuesday, February 12, 2013) – Amerigroup announced today its Maryland health plan, Amerigroup Maryland, teamed with the 2013 Super Bowl Champions, the Baltimore Ravens, and Wide Receiver Torrey Smith to kick off the Purple Ticket to Health program, encouraging the Company’s Greater Baltimore pediatric members and their families to take the initiative to stay healthy.

"Our primary goal for the Purple Ticket to Health program is to increase the likelihood that our youngest members will live healthier, happier lives," said Vincent Ancona, Amerigroup Maryland chief executive officer. "We are excited to offer this program, designed to motivate and educate families on the importance of seeing their Primary Care Provider (PCP) even when they aren’t feeling sick."

The program was created to encourage parents or guardians of Amerigroup members, between the ages of 3–20, to schedule their child’s well-child visits or teen’s annual physicals.

How the program works:

  • Amerigroup sent eligible members Purple Ticket to Health brochures encouraging wellness checkups to be scheduled around members’ birthdays
  • Members schedule and complete checkups with their PCPs
  • PCPs stamp or sign brochures indicating completion of visits
  • Members enter into the raffle by returning completed brochures to Amerigroup via postage paid envelopes
  • Winners will be randomly selected in five drawings that begin in March 2013 and extend through the end of the year

"I am very proud to support this effort with Amerigroup — teaching children the importance of seeing their doctor at an early age," Smith said.

Amerigroup members in Greater Baltimore will be encouraged to participate, including members from southern, central and western Maryland and the Eastern Shore.
