Amerigroup Named Green Power Partner

Amerigroup Named EPA’s Newest Green Power Partner

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Monday, Nov. 7, 2011) – Amerigroup Corporation (AGP:NYSE) announced today that its National Support Center has received recognition from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for being its newest Green Power Partner on the EPA’s Fortune 500 Partner’s list of green power purchasers.

The National Support Center purchases its electricity from two on-site wind turbines, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of its electricity use. Green power is generated from renewable resources including solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, and low-impact hydropower.

“The Amerigroup Virginia Beach National Support Center is making its environmental commitment clear by switching from traditional sources of electricity generation to cleaner, renewable energy alternatives,” said EPA’s mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Shawn M. Garvin. “I applaud their efforts to buy green power and hope others will follow their lead in helping to improve air quality.”

The green power purchase of more than 10 million kilowatt hours by Amerigroup is equivalent to avoiding the yearly carbon dioxide emissions of nearly 1,400 passenger vehicles or from more than 800 average American homes' electricity use.

“Amerigroup is pleased to receive this recognition from the EPA,” remarked Con Healy, senior vice president of the Corporate Services Administration for Amerigroup. “We take our responsibility to the environment and future generations very seriously, and are constantly looking for new ways to promote sustainability and corporate social responsibility.”

The EPA’s Green Power Partnership works with more than 1,300 partner organizations that voluntarily purchase green power to reduce the environmental impacts of conventional electricity use.
